SLI Advisory Board Member Lisa Kropp Selected as a 2025 Library Journal Mover and Shaker
Awarded under the “Change Agents” category, Lisa is celebrated by Library Journal for success in modernizing her building and adopting sustainable values around every corner.

New York–June 11, 2024 – The Library Journal Movers & Shakers award is granted to individuals transforming the library profession by inspiring their peers and enacting innovative changes that better their institutions and communities.
SLI Advisory Board member Lisa Kropp was recognized for her leadership of the Lindenhurst Memorial Library in New York after persevering for sustainable development following a $14.9 million bond library expansion referendum failure her first year as director.
Using the Sustainable Library Certification Program (SLCP) through the Sustainable Libraries Initiative to build understanding on sustainable practices and recover staff morale, Lisa and her library were able to champion for a new bond referendum 5 years later. The $9.4 million bond passed, bringing new life to the library.
“I'm so grateful to have been recognized by my colleagues and Library Journal for the work the staff at Lindenhurst Library has accomplished since 2019, when we were named a certified sustainable library. Our community has grown stronger because of the partnerships and programs we are able to offer in a newly renovated and expanded building, which is also a showcase for sustainable practices.”
In 2022, after the library’s official reopening, Lisa reports a significant positive change with soaring rates of library visitors and program attendees: establishing the library as a strong center for the community.
Lisa joins a growing list of SLI advisory board recognized for their sustainability work by Library Journal, including Hazel Onsrud, Nardia Cumberbatch, Rebekkah Smith Aldrich, Matthew Bollerman, and Claudia Depkin.
