New Inflation Reduction Act Provisions Allow State, Local, and Tribal Governments, Non-profits, U.S. Territories, Rural Energy Co-ops, and More to Access Tax Credits for Building a Clean Energy Economy 

Nonprofits can now benefit from tax deductions if they install energy-efficient equipment in new or renovated buildings that they own.  Starting in 2023, Internal Revenue Code Section 179D provides a tax incentive to those who build or renovate energy-efficient buildings. 

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recently announced a first-of-its-kind investment to fund energy-efficiency improvements in the nonprofit sector.  The Renew America’s Nonprofits program will include $45 million in funding for energy-efficient building improvements.

The Sustainable Libraries Initiative partners with New York libraries to cultivate library leadership for community resilience.

Harborfields Public Library Certification Presentation. They began working towards certification through the Sustainable Libraries Certification Program in September 2021 and since then have promoted sustainable thinking and taken action to effect change both inside their building and in their community.

This past May, Claire Mitchell, Teacher-Librarian at the Fairfield Elementary School of the Massapequa Union Free School District, in Massapequa, NY has been certified through the award-winning Sustainable Libraries Certification Program. Claire is the first elementary school Teacher-Librarian to be certified through this program.

         Michelle Statfeld, School Library Media Specialist at the West Babylon Junior High School, is Certified Sustainable. The Sustainable Libraries Initiative recognizes Michelle Statfeld as a leader in sustainability.
