Congratulations, Montauk Library! | Sustainable Libraries Initiative

The Sustainable Libraries Initiative is pleased to announce that we have certified our first library system through the Sustainable Library Certification Program. The Mid-Hudson Library System (MHLS), led by Executive Director and SLI Co-Founder, Rebekkah Smith Aldrich, has earned this designation.

SLI Co-founder, Rebekkah Smith Aldrich's, latest Library Journal column is available now. In Living Our Values Out Loud, she highlights New Canaan Library in New Canaan, CT, an SLCP Member Library, for bringing awareness to the important issue of human suffering in the building material supply chain. Brentwood Public Library in Brentwood, NY is now officially a Certified Sustainable Public Library! They are the thirteenth public library in the United States to become certified and the eighth in Suffolk County, NY.

The Sustainable Libraries Initiative has been named as a Community Connection and the Sustainable Library Certification Program (SLCP) has been highlighted as a Program Idea for the Sustainable California Libraries Grant. The Sustainable California Libraries grant opportunity is supported in whole or in part by the U.S.

Last week, the ALA Council Committee on Sustainability issued a press release titled, "A Call to Action on Climate Change for Libraries". Within this press release, they included the "Sustainability in Libraries: A Call to Action."
